BIOGRAPHY
Nicholas Sabisky is an upcoming London musician, with a varied career including being a composer, flautist and teacher. He has completed a postgraduate degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, specialising in composition.
Nicholas began playing the flute at a young age and progressed quickly, enjoying the art of improvisation in particular. As he evolved in his musicality and flute playing, he was soon writing down and developing his solo improvisations. This quickly sparked a love of composing.
To develop his musical talents early, Nicholas attended the Centre of Young Musicians, the Guildhall Junior Department and Chethams School of Music.
Nicholas has cultivated a unique musical style, making use of extended techniques and focusing on elements of contemporary exploration within his compositions and performances. He also specialises in composing swing and folk music, still utilising improvisation to evolve his ideas into complex and challenging pieces. Over the years, Nicholas has composed many works including orchestral, choral works and contemporary flute music.
During his degrees, Nicholas has studied flute and composition with Wissam Boustany, Francesca Hanley and Douglas Finch at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Whilst studying, he spent a lot of time collaborating with a wide range of artists, dancers, visual artists, film producers, composers/programmers and set designers in many different projects. In particular, Nicholas has enjoyed collaborating with visual artist Hiroko Imada in Vantaa, Finland.
Nicholas has performed with several orchestras in venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican and the Royal Albert Hall under renowned conductors such as Sir Colin Davis and Peter Stark.
Alongside his varied musical career, he has found an enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge with younger generations. The last couple of years, Nicholas has helped with the creation and running of the MusicOnWheels bus, a purpose built double decker bus that travels around London teaching music. Under MusicOnWheels and Lycaeum, Nicholas has run workshops, taught group woodwind and musicianship, organised concerts and has adjudicated competitions. He is also a tutor at Blackheath Conservatoire, running a number of classes including his own holiday courses.
